Syracuse University

Officially chartered in 1870 as a private, coeducational institution of higher education, Syracuse University is a leading student-centered research university. SU's eleven schools and colleges share a common mission: To promote learning through teaching, research, scholarship, creative accomplishment and service while embracing the core values of quality, caring, diversity, innovation and service.

The 680-acre campus is home to more than 12,000 undergraduate students and 6,000 graduate students from all 50 states and 90 countries. Syracuse University receives approximately $43 million in research awards.

SUNY Upstate Medical University

Upstate Medical University is one of 125 academic medical centers in the United States - and the only one in central New York. Academic medical centers are built around teaching hospitals and medical schools and lead the nation in scientific research, medical education and health care.

Through its four colleges (Medicine, Health Professions, Nursing, Graduate Studies) Upstate educates physicians, research scientists, nurses and health care professionals. With the 350-bed University Hospital, an extensive network of specialty services, and a rapidly expanding research division, Upstate serves as a source of medical leadership for central New York and beyond.

Approximately 1,200 students attend Upstate, which awards degrees ranging from B.S. to M.S. to Ph.D. The University is one of the area's largest employers with more than 5,000 faculty, medical residents, staff and administrators. Upstate receives approximately $27 million per year in research awards.

SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF)

ESF's mission is to be a world leader in instruction, research and public service related to understanding the structure and function of the world's ecosystems; developing, managing and using renewable natural resources; improving outdoor environments ranging from wilderness to managed forests to urban landscapes; and maintaining and enhancing biological diversity, environmental quality and resource options.

In September 2001, U.S. News and World Report rated ESF among the nation's top public universities in its annual list of America's best colleges.

This small, specialized College has 1,800 students, 132 full-time faculty members and 10 academic programs offering academic degrees ranging from A.A.S. to Ph.D. In addition to the main campus in Syracuse, ESF maintains regional campuses and field stations in Tully, Wanakena, Warrensburg, Cranberry Lake, Newcomb and Clayton. ESF receives approximately $25 million per year in research awards.
